THQ closes Studio in San Diego, following UFC license loss at E3

THQ

THQ closed his studio in San Diego, as a direct response to the loss of the license of the UFC to EA Sports. THQ San Diego was the developer of the series UFC Undisputed from THQ, one of the best-selling games of the Publisher. The Studio's most recent completed game was WWE All Stars.

"THQ confirms today's announcement about the UFC license transition will affect the company's San Diego studio," said THQ VP Angela communications in a statement, Emery to Gamasutra. "THQ works in conjunction with the relevant staff or find jobs within the company, or potentially with EA."

EA Sports has acquired the license from THQ for an unspecified amount, paid in cash. Anonymous declarations reported the Kotaku allege that THQ San Diego officials were notified of the closure and loss of license yesterday. These same sources claim that at the time of closure, THQ San Diego was already at work developing a new UFC title by THQ.

"Have relished our relationship with the UFC in recent years and believe the UFC games mark is in great shape. More focused strategy change of THQ front meant that transfer the license to EA made sense to all parties, "said THQ CEO Brian Farrell, in a statement made to Joystiq. "We would like to thank UFC great support and partnership and desire and all the best next."

THQ San Diego employed about 100 people and was previously one of the studios set adrift by the bankruptcy of 2009 from Midway. THQ bought the Studio of Midway during the bankruptcy proceedings for an amount of $ 200,000. While with Midway, the company that would become THQ San Diego developed TNA Impact!, before joining WWE license to THQ.
